You Made This
You Made This is an ongoing project exploring social media, digital culture, and privacy. Each week, Charlotte prints out the first 5 Instagram posts she sees that morning and uses them as source material for a collage. Instagram is set up for us to scroll, to engage in very brief relationships with posts about things that people have spent hours, days, or lifetimes working on. We may double-tap to show our appreciation, or perhaps even comment if we’re feeling especially generous-but the interaction itself is momentary. By taking the time to print, cut, arrange, and glue these images, Charlotte creates new, longer-lasting relationships with this imagery, without the consent or knowledge of the creator.
